i saw this promo vid on youtube and wanted to check out your server, but all i'm getting is a connection timed out. 
is the IP im using correct? 173.255.227.205:25565 (tried with and without port)
hope you can help me. server seems awesome

First... you need to fill out a application form to get whitelisted.
second... the server is down for a time, because the server is a rp server and uses alot of mods for a griefless and good experience, but since Hmod (where all mods run on) is not supported anymore, we need to wait for it's succesor: "bukkit".

okay. because in the application form you have to answer questions about things in the server i thought you had to join first

No, you can find that information in the rules which you should read before applying anyway.
